WHEN THE HAIR GROWS BACK
Restoring God’s Glory
Judges 16 (KJV)
The story of Samson
is often called upon to depict the failure of a man due to his
weakness for women. It is good to know however, that God’s plan
for an individual’s life goes beyond pointing out human failure.
Samson’s life exemplifies the whole counsel of God and how He
takes an individual “full circle” in the span of a lifetime.
At Samson’s birth
certain divine instructions were given to his parents. These
Godly parents were to raise their son as a Nazarite, “no razor
shall come on his head, and he shall begin to deliver Israel out
of the hand of the Philistines”. Moreover, according to the
Mosaic Law in Numbers 6:2-6, a Nazarite was to “separate
themselves unto the Lord”, not to drink strong drink, nor touch
anything dead (including family member or close friend). Samson
had to adhere to these ‘rules’ for his entire life!
Well, we remember
the story of Samson and how he slew thousands with his bare
hands, and caused the Philistines to fear him greatly. This
‘fear’ caused the Adversary to devise plots and schemes in order
to find out the secret to Samson’s supernatural strength.
Samson’s failure
shows that there is ‘no good thing’ in our flesh. He allowed
himself to become separated from God by worldly influences, lust
and temptation, his weakness was that he loved ‘strange women’,
so much so that he even despised his parents’ effort to find a
godly wife for him (oil and vinegar do not mix).
More importantly,
Samson succumbs to Delilah’s persistent questions concerning the
source of his strength, and that persistence eventually caused
him to give away the source of his natural and spiritual
blessings. He tells her, “…if I be shaven, then my strength will
go from me,” and guess what happens next. Albeit, the saddest
part of Samson’s life is that he took God for granted, scripture
says “….he wist not (did not know) that the Lord was departed
from him”. Apostle Paul uses the phrase “frustrating God’s
grace”.
Thankfully the
story of Samson’s life does not end there, for verse 22 says,
“Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again...” and Samson
killed more of the enemy in his last battle than he did during
his entire life.
Thus Samson’s life
story serves as an example of how our great God is able to put
back together the broken pieces of our lives and restore His
glory in us…..….
